Wizoo Quick Start Guides : Fruityloops, Homestudio
How many times have you been stuck, because you don't know how to use a piece of sotware? Although most of today's programs are made to be beginner friendly (just look at the amount of beginner awards we have given) and most programs have some sort of manual aimed at the beginner, still there is a need for more guides to beginners. About 60 pages each (+ CD), these are not a replacemnet to your manual. They show you how to start and that's it. Even though I have read through the manuals and used both Fruityloops and Homestudio, there was still something new for me in both books. Fruityloops Guide The fruityloops guide goes at quite a pace. In 62 pages you go from set-up of drivers to editing automation. On the CD you have fruityloops tutorial files, mp3s of the tutorials, and demos of Fruityloops, EZeditor, Fruitytracks and Simsynth. I like the practical approach on this book, it seems like a one long tutorial that's split into parts. Homestudio Guide As a sequncer I see people having some problems with starting with Homestudio (I sure did have my share).This is the reason we started our Getting most out of Homestudio tutorial series. But back to the book. There is a lot more theory to read through than in the Fruitloops guide, I like the way it explains things and it all seems so easy. The book as a whole with the CD seems to contain much more than the Fruityloops counterpart. The CD contains the tutorial files,Cakewalk Demo files you will need, 10 free drum loops drum the author, samples for the tutorials, demos of Sonar 1&2, samples from the Technoid Guitar collection and videos accompanying the tutorials. My Verdict Both of the guides have been written very well with the beginner in mind. I could have seen myself buy one of these a couple of years back. The books do end quite soon though, and there is not a visible way to go forward (How about a series of advanced books, Wizoo?). They do however show you the basics which could be later extended by reading the manuals for each software or buying a magazine with tutorials. The internet business is a way forward with books like these, my advice to Wizoo is to also make the Quick start guides also available as e-books.
