As it tends to be that most of the professional microphones need a pre-amplifier. Although you might be tempted to get a mixing console, the pre-amps on those are usually inferior quality compared to standalone pre-amps. This is where Behringer have come in as a big mixer and professional pre-amp builder to give you a inexpensive tube pre-amp.

So you might wonder ; inexpensive and tube pre-amp do they go well together? And the answer is yes, the solution works quite well.

The pre-amp reminds me of a (very) small mixer, with 2 knobs and 4 on/off buttons to play with. The whole unit is pretty slick in its steel case, it is a very durable unit, just perfect for gigs and the likes.

There is a input choice of XLR (Gold plated) or 1/4" TRS included and respectively the same options for output, but with output you can use both connectors for double output.

As a pre-amp it is perfect for a beginner or intermediate, but a professional might be tempted to get one with some included effects.

On the whole it is a great pre-amp box, for a good price that rightly deserves to be called the choice for bedroom musicians. Behringer have brought out a pre-amp that is a solid piece of studio equipment.

For users who feel they need more control, there will be a new version of Mic 100 called the Mic 200 coming out soon. It boasts a pre-amp mode selector, also coming with a low cut option. More information is available from here.

Overall the unit is a solid piece of hardware that has quite a few options for the beginning or advanced computer musician and still is able to produce that professional sounding result. What can I say? Its great for us bedroom musicians.

Plus and Minus:
+Very solid, takes some beating
+Good sound
+2 simultaneous Outputs
+Its a affordable tube pre-amp
-Can get a little warm
-Won't please some professionals

9/10 - A simple, very useful pre-amp that is good for the less experienced, but still gives that professional sound you are looking for.

Conclusion: It is a simple pre-amp that is simply the choice when looking for a good inexpensive pre-amp. The simplicity is both it's strong and weak point.

Who said a pre-amp can't look cool?
